David Ríos Insua is Research Professor at ICMAT and member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences. He is the AXA-ICMAT Chair in Adversarial Risk Analysis. Besides, he is Professor of Statistics and Operations Research at the Complutense University (on leave). He has been lecturer and researcher at the Universities of Manchester, Leeds, Purdue, Duke, Paris Dauphine, Aalto, Rey Juan Carlos University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He has been researcher at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Vienna, the Istituto di Matematica Applicata e Tecnologie Informatiche at Milano and the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (Durham, NC), where he led two programs.

He graduated in Math Sciences (Stats and OR) at the Complutense University of Madrid (with Extraordinary and National Awards) and gained his PhD in Computer Studies (OR) at Leeds University, under the supervision of Simon French. His research work is focused on the fields of Decision Analysis, Negotiation Analysis, Bayesian Statistics, Machine Learning and Risk Analysis and their applications to reservoir management, the protection of critical infrastructures, social robotics, electronic participation and, lately, adversarial machine learning, among others. His approach to research stems from real complex problems in decision-making, which lead to methodological innovations that often become new systems for supporting the decision-making process. He is the author and editor of 20 monographs (including Sensitivity Analysis in MODM (Springer), Statistical Decision Theory (Wiley), Bayesian Analysis of Stochastic Process Models (Wiley) and Adversarial Risk Analysis (Taylor Francis)), nine special issues of journals and more than 160 papers and refereed chapters, as well as being invited speaker on 70 occasions.

He has supervised 27 doctoral theses and 31 Master theses. He is on the editorial boards of RACSAM and the European Journal of Decision Processes. He has been awarded research prizes by the Decision Analysis Society, the Society for Risk Analysis, the UPM foundation, the DMR Consulting Foundation, ISBA and SEIO. He was scientific advisor of Aisoy Robotics and received the Everis Foundation 2013 Entrepreneurs Award. Among his interests are travel (especially in the north of Galicia), surfing and learning from his daughters.
